Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG) is 15 km south-west of the city: a tangier airport transfer to the medina, the centre or Malabata costs 25€ and takes 25 minutes. The Tangier Med port, where the ferries from Algeciras and Tarifa dock, is another world: 45 km east of the city, no train, no regular shuttle — a transfer from the port costs 59€.

Tangier in three parts — and why it changes your tangier transfer
To understand what a tangier transfer involves, picture the city. The medina and the Kasbah, on the hill above the port, have lanes a car cannot enter. On every tangier transfer to a medina riad the driver stops at the nearest gate — Bab el-Fahs by the Grand Socco, Bab Kasbah at the top, or the port below — and carries the bags. Give us the riad's name; that decides the gate.
The Ville Nouvelle, around Boulevard Pasteur and Place de France, is reached to the hotel door. Malabata and the bay, with the big hotels and the new corniche, are 4 km east; Tangier Ville station is on that side too, which matters if you continue by Al Boraq.
A practical tip for your tangier transfer: say whether you arrive by air or by sea. The airport and the port are at opposite ends of the city, 60 km apart, and the price is not the same.
Ibn Battouta Airport and Tangier Med port — what to know before you arrive
Ibn Battouta, the starting point of most tangier transfer requests, is a mid-size airport: one terminal, flights mostly from Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Brussels, Amsterdam and London. There is no train and no regular shuttle: Tangier Ville station is 15 km away on the other side of the city.
In practice everyone leaves by road — a grand taxi at a price agreed on the spot, a rental desk, or a tangier airport transfer booked with the driver in the arrivals hall.
Tangier Med is the trap for travellers arriving from Spain on foot without a private transfer tangier booking. The port is huge, 45 km from Tangier, and no train goes there. Grand taxis wait outside the passenger terminal, leave when full and drop you at the bus station. A tangier transfer from the port collects you at disembarkation, follows the real timing of your ferry — they are often an hour late — and drops you at the door.

Tangier airport taxi — booked or on the spot?
A tangier airport taxi from the rank works: a Mercedes grand taxi, price agreed before you get in, about 150 to 200 dirhams to the city by day, more at night or to Malabata. The driver drops you where he knows, not necessarily at your door, and leaves. After the last evening flight the rank empties fast.
A booked tangier transfer costs 25€ — about the same as a tangier airport taxi — and fixes the price, the vehicle and the driver before departure. You get his name and number on WhatsApp, the car has a real boot, and someone is there if you land at 11 p.m. The difference is not the money; it is certainty.
Honestly: alone, by day, with one bag? The taxi rank works very well. Two or more people, luggage, a night landing, or an arrival at Tangier Med: the private transfer tangier option is the one where nothing needs organising on arrival.

Transfer from Tangier — to the airport and other cities
A tangier transfer from the city means pickup at your riad or hotel, bags carried down to the car. For an airport or port departure the time is calculated from your flight or ferry.
Transfer to Tangier — arriving from another city
Simple rule for every tangier transfer: the outbound price is the return price. Chefchaouen → Tangier costs the same as Tangier → Chefchaouen. Drop-off at your hotel, Tangier Ville station, the airport or Tangier Med.

Tangier to Chefchaouen transfer — the most requested route
The tangier to chefchaouen transfer is, by far, the most booked trip out of Tangier after the airport. 115 km, about 2 hours, via Tetouan and then the climb into the Rif, for 89€ per vehicle — 22€ each for four. The CTM coach does the same trip in 2h30 to 3 hours for about ten euros per person, and it is decent: travelling alone with a bag, take it.
But it leaves from Tangier bus station and arrives at Chefchaouen bus station, at the bottom of town, from where you still climb on foot to the blue medina.
A private tangier to chefchaouen transfer collects you at your hotel, at the airport (99€) or at the Tangier Med port (99€) and drops you at Bab el-Ain or the gate nearest your guesthouse. The return tangier transfer has its own difficulty: everyone underestimates the descent out of the Rif by an hour. For a flight at Ibn Battouta we leave Chefchaouen 3h30 before take-off, not 2h30.

When the private car is worth it — and when Al Boraq is better
We say it plainly, before selling you a tangier transfer: Al Boraq, Morocco's high-speed train, links Tangier Ville station to Rabat in 1h20 and Casablanca in 2h10, hourly, for about thirty euros in first class. It is excellent. Travelling alone with a bag, with a hotel near the station in Rabat or Casablanca? Take it.
A private tangier transfer earns its place differently: two or more people splitting the fare (four Al Boraq tickets to Casablanca cost as much as the car), suitcases to get out of a riad, a departure from the airport or from Tangier Med — neither has a station — or a destination the train does not reach. And that is half the tangier transfer routes on this page: Chefchaouen, Asilah medina, Tetouan, Martil, Cabo Negro have no useful train.
On those routes a private car is not a comfort, it is the only door-to-door option.

When to book, and what changes with the season
A tangier transfer can be booked up to the evening before for most of the year. Two exceptions. In July and August, Operation Marhaba brings hundreds of thousands of Moroccans living in Europe through Tangier Med: the port is saturated, ferries run hours late, and cars are allocated days ahead. Book as soon as you have your ticket. Between Christmas and New Year, Ibn Battouta gets its busiest flights and every tangier transfer slot goes early.
For a tangier transfer to Chefchaouen the season matters too: on spring and autumn weekends the blue city is full and the Rif road fills after 4 p.m. A morning departure before 9 a.m. avoids all of it. In winter the descent out of the Rif can be in fog; our drivers do it every week.
