The Essaouira to Agadir distance is approximately 175 km by road, taking about 3 hours of driving time on the N1 National Route. The route runs south from Essaouira (a UNESCO-listed walled port city in the Marrakech-Safi region) along Morocco's stunning Atlantic coastline, passing the surf villages of Sidi Kaouki, Diabat, Imsouane, and Taghazout, before reaching Agadir in the Souss-Massa region.

The N1 is one of Morocco's most beautiful coastal roads — a fully paved national highway winding between the Atlantic Ocean and the Anti-Atlas Mountains foothills. The road is in good condition (even in the rain), slow and winding in places but without steep drop-offs. Locals and travel writers alike describe it as "a joy to drive". Most of our drivers will happily make a 5-10 minute photo stop at the most scenic viewpoints if you ask.

Essaouira's UNESCO medina is car-free, so we pick up at the nearest accessible point — typically Bab Marrakech, Bab Doukkala, or your riad's nearest car-accessible street. From there, we head south on the N1 through Sidi Kaouki (relaxed surf village 25 km south of Essaouira), the legendary Imsouane bay (famous worldwide for "The Bay" wave — one of the longest right-handers in Africa) and Taghazout surf coast.
